City of Lynd Welcomes You!

Nestled in the heart of Lyon County, the City of Lynd was officially platted in 1888 and proudly bears the name of State Senator James Lynd, who lost his life during the Attack at the Lower Sioux Agency. Today, Lynd is home to a close-knit population of 461 residents (2020 Census) and continues to grow as a vibrant and welcoming community.

Covering just 1.19 square miles, Lynd may be small in size but is rich in natural beauty and historical significance. The scenic Redwood River winds through the city, and Lynd borders the northeastern edge of Camden State Park—offering residents and visitors access to outdoor recreation year-round.

Minnesota State Highway 23 provides direct access to Lynd, making it a convenient and peaceful home base for those who work in the nearby city of Marshall. Lynd has increasingly become a desirable bedroom community, thanks in part to new housing developments and the addition of Savannah Oaks Golf Course—sparking a growth trend that could one day double the city’s size.

Lynd’s past is just as compelling as its future. Once home to the Kiel and Morgan Hotel, the original Lyon County seat, the city has played a historically significant role in the region despite its modest size today.

Whether you're visiting, moving, or just passing through, Lynd offers a unique blend of small-town charm, rich history, and exciting potential.
